Report a scam
If money or an account is involved, act fast. Speed matters. Do these steps in order.
- Call your bank or card company right now. Use the number on your card or statement, not one from a message. Ask them to stop or pull back any money you sent.
- Report it to the FBI at its Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3). This is for online scams, fake work emails, and wire fraud. ic3.gov
- Report it to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for scams and fake callers. reportfraud.ftc.gov
- If someone stole your identity, get a free recovery plan from the FTC. IdentityTheft.gov
- Call your local police and file a report. Your bank or insurance company may ask for it.
Special cases
- Fake IRS or tax emails: follow the IRS steps at irs.gov: report fake IRS emails and messages.
- Hacking at a business: you can report it to the U.S. cybersecurity agency (CISA) at cisa.gov/report.

FraudMeNot can't look into single cases or get money back. Never pay anyone up front who promises to get your lost money back. That's often a second scam. We aren't part of these agencies. These links go to their official sites.
